Course information
Welcome to Spanish class! In 7th grade Spanish class we will put emphasis on communicating in the target language, so there will be concentration in speaking and pronunciation. Also, we will practice reading and writing in the target language and we will develop an understanding of the Spanish-speaking world by learning about the culture and lifestyle. Throughout the school year we will explore topics related to leisure activities, family and home, food, healthy living and Hispanic food tour, shopping, clothing and fashion. Instruction will primarily be done in Spanish.

Today I introduced the Food Pyramid (La Piramide Alimenticia) and the groups (los granos, la carne, los lacteos, etc) Then each group created a section of the food pyramid, drew and labeled the food that belongs there and then they presented it to the class. They also said why it is important to eat from that group of food, (grains give you energy, fruits and vegetables give you vitamins, meat and beans give you protein, dairy gives you calcium and water keeps you hydrated.) Tomorrow 3 more groups will finish presenting it.

HACER AHORA: students wrote where their kitchen, garage, bedroom and living room is located and they shared with their group and the class. For example: En mi casa mi dormitorio está al lado de la cocina.
After that, students watched a video about famous people mansions. They had to interpret the video and write notes about what they heard. For example: La casa de JLo tiene 6 dormitorios y 12 baños. Esta en Beverly Hills y es una mansión con vista al mar.

Today students learned different things that go in the kitchen and bathroom. They also learned the prepositions. In the future students will be able to use the prepositions and the new vocabulary to describe where things are located in their house. Please see the attachment of our hacer ahora, preposition's notes and kitchen and bathroom notes. TAREA: write the preposition in the correct place. CHALLENGE: watch the youtube video and learn the rhyme and hand gestures for the spanish prepositions!!

For their HACER AHORA (Do now) students described their bedroom, living room and the house. They learned new adjectives: antigüo/a-moderno/a, bonito/a-feo/a,grande-pequeño/a, cómodo/a-incomodo/a.
After that, students did a speaking activity in which they had to find classmates who have different things in their bedroom and they had to sign their paper.

After that, they did a reading activity in which they had to read about four different students and the chores they do. While they were reading they had to fill in a chart with the name of the person who does a specific chart. Then we shared the answers with the class.

This was a great way to practice asking classmates if they do chores: for example one student asks: ¿Limpias el carro en el verano?, and the student who had this chore assigned to him/her would answer: Si, yo limpio el carro en el verano.

This week we have been learning about verbs that en in -AR in Spanish. Some of them include, caminar (to walk), estudiar (to study), escuchar (to listen), pasar tiempo con amigos (spend time with friends). Students learned that when I am doing the action the -AR ending of the verb drops, and we add an O. Yo camino (I walk), yo estudio (I study), yo escucho (I listen), yo paso tiempo con amigos (I spend time with friends).
If I want to say that YOU are doing the action, the ending should be AS. Tú caminas (You walk), tú estudias (you study), tú escuchas (you listen), tú pasas tiempo con amigos (you spend time with friends).
