5th graders really enjoyed watching a video about "The very hungry caterpillar" (La oruga muy hambrienta) and doing an activity. We practiced fruits, days of the week, and colors!
I addition they learned how do we say in Spanish "Once upon a time" (Habia una vez...) and how do we end a story by saying "Y colorín colorado, este cuento se ha terminado..." and el fin (The end). |
Día de acción de gracias
In order to celebrate Thanksgiving, students created a Turkey and shared what are they thankful for.

With 5th Grade we have been having so much fun learning about the tropical rainforest. We have been learning about the animals and vegetation and we located the rainforest on the map. Students have been practicing their interpersonal skills by doing pair and group speaking activities, as well as answering questions to Señora. Also, they have been practicing their interpretive skills by watching videos in Spanish.
These are some examples of the Selva Tropical (Tropical Rainforest) that students created. They had to pick a spanish speaking country that has a tropical rainforest and create a dialogue between two campers. They decorated it with pasto/hierba (grass), flores (flowers), hojas (leaves), árboles (trees) and animales!!!
I am attaching flashcards that we did in the class with Camping material. Students learned 8 vocabulary words related to camping: La linterna (flashlight), la bolsa de dormir (sleeping bag), la tienda (tent), la cantimplora (canteen), las botas (boots), el sombreto (hat), la mochila (backpack), y la brújula (compass). Most importantly students learned how to ask
"What do you bring camping?"
¿Qué llevas?
I bring...
Yo llevo_____________ .
They uses this new vocabulary in a speaking activity in which they need to ask their classmates what do they bring camping, fill in the chat and then report out to the class what their friend is bringing.

We watched Lola Aventuras, which is a segment of the show Plaza Sésamo. With this video I introduced some of the rainforest animals, mono, loro, and perezoso. Through TPR (Total Physical Response) I taught the students some activities like, caminar, correr and saltar. We also talked about how our corazon (heart) slows down when we are sleeping but beats fast when we are doing activities.
Students really enjoyed this video! |

Through Movie Talk I introduced this short clip to the students. First with the sound off I started by pausing the video and asking the students questions in the target language about what is happening in the story. Then I put the volume up and we watched it again.
As and activity students had to put the story in order. They loved this activity and they were singing along with me "Y la iguana se toma el café, se toma el café a la hora del té" (and the Iguana drinks coffee, drinks coffee at tea time). |
